We think asset data is a reconciliation problem, not a discovery problem.
Most tools in this category try to find your hardware. Your hardware is already found — four times over, by four systems that each hold part of the truth and none of the whole.
Thesis
Every company past a few hundred people runs an MDM, an HR system, an endpoint agent, and a procurement trail. Each of those was bought to do a job, and each does it. None of them was designed to be the record of what hardware exists and who has it, and so none of them is.
The usual response is to build a fifth system and load the other four into it. That produces a snapshot that is correct on Tuesday and quietly wrong by Friday, because the loading is a project and the drift is continuous.
The useful thing to build instead is the reconciliation itself: keep reading the four systems, decide per field which one is authoritative, keep the losing values as history, and put the disagreements in front of a person instead of averaging them away. A record you can argue with is worth more than a record that looks clean.
